The first film, a band of the Lumière brothers, was shot in Luxembourg in 1899. In spite of this, for a very long time, Luxembourg cinema consisted of a multitude of small documentaries and a few very rare feature films. It was not until the end of the 1980s that a real film production site developed, first timidly and then increasingly rapidly, in Luxembourg, supported by the State and recognised abroad.
